Dr El-Nasir M A Lalani

Aga Khan University’s Centre for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research

Dr El-Nasir Lalani is Professor of Stem Cell Biology and Translational Medicine and Professor of Molecular and Cellular Pathology at Aga Khan University’s Centre for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research (AKU-CRM). He was appointed as the Founding Director of the Centre in August 2016. Prior to his current appointment, he was the Founding Dean of Research and Graduate Studies at AKU for 8 years.

Before joining AKU, he held Professorial positions at University of Birmingham, UK and at Imperial College, UK.

  • Professor Lalani's work spans the field of stem cells and cancer biology. He has published over 200 papers proceedings etc. and is the co-editor of the book Prostate Cancer Scientific and Clinical Aspects- Bridging the Gap by Imperial College Press.

  • Professor Lalani is a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists UK and Higher Education Academy UK.

  • He is an active member of the Asian and Pacific Rim Research Integrity Planning Committee

  • New York Academy of Sciences and the American Association for Advancement of Science.

  • He has also served as the Director of Pakistan Medical Research Council Co-Director of Imperial College (Adult) and MRC (Foetal) Human Biomaterials Resource Centre

  • member of the Human Tissue Authority designated Individual at the University of Birmingham UK and member of West Midlands Research Ethics Committee.

  • Professor Lalani has also been a leading member of various forums of the Aga Khan Development Network.
